Up From the Depths!

"Godzilla Mushrooms" (Stropharia rugosoannulata / 'Wine Caps') are back. They may not quite be 'thirty stories high', but this early season specimen, shown here with a good old loonie for scale, certainly was an imposing presence in our hop beds, with its eight inch diameter cap. And it was not alone:

Returning for their second year, and fruiting three weeks earlier in the season, 2024 looks like it will be a good year for Wine Caps. Expect early and second flush late summer bounties coming to a market near you soon!
